Dr. Bill Knaus, Ed.D., psychologist and renowned authority in the field of overcoming procrastination, will join SMART Recovery® Online to present an Anti-Procrastination Workshop Series during the month of July. The workshop is an adaptation of his highly successful face-to-face workshops and will last for five weeks. The format of the workshops will follow a concept/application presentation, beginning with a Main Event, followed by three Q&A Sessions, and a final Booster Session to provide an overview and ways forward to end procrastination.

Dr. Knaus is a premier expert in the field of helping people overcome procrastination. He originated the self-help movement for overcoming procrastination and has worked with thousands of people in his individual private practice and in his transformational anti-procrastination workshops. SMART Recovery® is delighted to announce that Dr. Michael Edelstein will join us on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at 12:00 pm EDT to speak about SMART and its foundation in REBT (Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy), as set forth by Dr. Albert Ellis.

This will be a one-hour session in the SMART Room at SMART Online and Dr. Edelstein will focus a large portion of the time on Q&A.

Dr. Michael R. Edelstein is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 30 years’ experience and has a private practice in San Francisco, offering in-person as well as telephone sessions, and he is a SMART Recovery Professional Advisor.  He is the author of  Three Minute Therapy: Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life , a self-help book for overcoming common emotional and behavioral problems.

angerfearSMART Recovery® is very pleased to announce that Mr. Edward Garcia, MA, CSW, will continue his series of workshops on The Anatomy of Emotions with the second in the series, Understanding Fear & Anger, which will take place on Thursday, May 26, 2011 in the SMART Recovery SMART Room from 8:30-9:30 p.m., EDT.  From his premise, “We feel the way we think,” presented in his introductory presentation, Mr. Garcia will expand on the question “What ARE the thoughts that underlie fear and anger?”  He will look at the specific thoughts we have, the processes we go through, from thought to feeling, and how these two emotions, anger and fear, are inextricably tied.  The previous session (Anatomy of Emotions) is available as a podcast on SMART Recovery’s new podcast site.

Among many achievements, Mr. Garcia has an [extensive and diverse background in the field of human behavior. He holds both an undergraduate and graduate degree from New York University. His post graduate work was conducted at the Institute for Advanced Study in Rational Emotive Therapy, where Mr. Garcia worked extensively with Dr. Albert Ellis, founder of REBT, and on whose work SMART is founded. Meyers, creator of the Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) treatment approach, long-term practitioner in the field of addiction recovery, and co-author of the book Get Your Loved One Sober: Alternatives to Nagging, Pleading and Threatening, will be a special Guest Speaker at the Monday, April 18th SMART Recovery online meeting for Family & Friends, 9:00pm-10:30pm est. Dr. Meyers will address topics related to CRAFT, as well as answer questions from the meeting participants.
