SMART Recovery Annual ConferenceWould you like a deeper connection to SMART Recovery? Interested in celebrating SMART’s 20th anniversary and networking with other volunteers? Want to learn more about the science behind SMART? Interested in SMART’s plans for the future?

The 2014 SMART Annual Conference will be held in the heart of Washington, D.C., at the Grosvenor Auditorium at the National Geographic Headquarters. In keeping with the spirit of the National Geographic, the theme is Exploring the Power of Choice. This conference is geared to inform and inspire, with session topics covering SMART tools, organizational updates, future plans, and with addiction recovery professionals speaking on mindfulness, recovery advocacy, history of recovery, and more.

International FUNdraiser Auction

October 26 – November 2, 2013

The fun started at 10am on Saturday, October 26 when bidding began on our online International FUNdraising auction of items donated by SMART participants. Many of the donations are hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind items and come from a variety of countries. A few of the many items available: designer jewelry, original paintings, ornaments, Australian bush hat, autographed books, handcrafted jewelry, beautiful photography … and more! . The closing events of the FUNdraiser will be from 7 to 8 p.m. EDT on November 2 as final bids are accepted. All bidding ends sharply at 8 p.m. Bidding takes place on the Message Board.

There is a very helpful addiction recovery tool that can change the way that you think about drugs and alcohol. It is called the ABC Tool and it is used in SMART Recovery®. The underlying assumption of the ABC Tool is that how we think has a major impact on our emotions and behaviors.

Change our thinking…and then our feelings and actions will change as well.

The ABC Tool is a self-help activity that you can complete any time that you feel like drinking or using, or when you want to stop drinking alcohol** for a month or more. In effect, the ABC Tool helps us unravel our thinking about drugs and alcohol and is the basic way to abstain from any chemical or behavior that negatively impacts our life. But what is the ABC Tool? A few of the many items available: handcrafted jewelry, an Australian Didgeridoo, hand-painted travel mugs, autographed books, an autographed Yankees baseball, a vibrant painting, beautiful photography … and more! Bidding closes at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a telethon beginning at 7 p.m. and Volunteer Hour and SMART Online Birthday Celebration in the chat room beginning at 8 p.m.

All funds raised during the FUNdraiser are used to keep SMART Recovery Online growing and thriving. Contributions are tax deductible and donors will receive a thank you and an “official” letter for tax deduction purposes at the end of the year.
